Hi Cooking Moms, Dads & Friends, I hope you had s good week! Confession… I was feeling a bit blue this week. We were supposed to be in Germany for Oktoberfest for my 2nd culinary trip! We were going to spend 2 days in Munich drinking German beer and wine and eating giant sausages and pretzels. Then our group was going on an 8-day River Cruise through Germany, Switzerland, and France. Well, as we all know, everything changed. But, I have great news. I found out this week the trip has been re-booked for next September 2021! If it’s safe to travel, pack your bags and come with me! Last year I led a group of 35 to Tuscany. We did it all! We toured wineries, took Italian cooking classes, and we even spent time on two real, working Tuscan farms. It really was the trip of a lifetime! Click Culinary Vacations with The Cooking Mom to read all about my trips and get details of next fall’s trip. I’d also love to hear where you’d like to go! I’m thinking positively and I've got more culinary trips planned for 2021 and 2022. When its safe, I’m planning a trip back to Tuscany and I’ll be doing domestic trips too! I’m working out all the details, so more to come soon! If you’d like to learn more and join me for a trip of a lifetime, email me at info@thecookingmom.com to send me your name and contact information. I’ll keep you posted as there is more news. This weekend we are celebrating Oktoberfest at home. Back when I was in college at Marquette University, I used to work at a legendary German restaurant in Milwaukee called Mader’s. Have you been there? I haven’t been there in decades but it used to wonderful! When I’m craving German food, it’s time to make my German Dinner in the Slow Cooker! It reminds me of my days at Mader’s. Sauerkraut, potatoes, apples, smoked sausage and a little beer. What's not to love? It's AMAZING and so easy! Not to mention the house smells so good when this is cooking. YUMMY! What a great dinner to come home to. My Sausage, Potato and Cabbage Skillet is another one of my faves this time of year. It’s super quick and easy. You can get it on the table in 30 minutes or less! Serve it right out of the skillet with some German mustard on the side. Just one dish to wash too. LOVE THAT! Click Dinner for more one skillet wonder and dinner recipes like this. On the side, I love my Spinach Salad with Sweet and Sour Dressing and my homemade 4-ingredient Beer Bread. So much cheaper to make than those box beer bread mixes. It cost just pennies and it's so good! Click Sides and Salads for more ideas. If you like brats, you’ll LOVE my Brat Bundles! Perfect for game day! Click Appetizers for more munchie and dip recipes. For dessert, it’s gotta be German Chocolate Cake! The coconut pecan frosting is SO GOOD. Click Desserts for more tasty dessert recipes. For breakfast, why not really WOW the family this weekend with my German Apple Pancake? I love this recipe because it makes you look like a total rockstar! Nobody needs to know how easy it was to make. And you probably have all the ingredients to make it right now. So, what are you waiting for? Makes the house smell so good and no flipping pancakes all morning! I serve it with Brown Sugar Bacon. Click Breakfast and Brunch for more delicious recipes.
